Project Manager - Technologist - Geographer

Work

I am a customer focused project leader and consultant who loves to build teams that agilely deliver innovation and transformation for missions critical to the health and prosperity of our planet and its residents. My background covers Earth sciences, data sciences, enterprise computing technology, and project management. Over the years, I've had the privilege to lead a range of multi-disciplinary research, development, and technology initiatives across government, commercial, and non-profit sectors. My work over the last 15 years has largely concentrated on helping U.S. federal agencies within the departments of homeland security, defense, commerce, and agriculture develop large data analytics and decision support solutions. Areas of specialty include spatio-temporal data integration; geospatial visualization and remote sensing; cloud-native serverless computing; data privacy protection; web application development; natural hazards, disaster response and emergency management; demographics; and Scrum.

Adventure

Why are places the way they are?

Neighborhoods, cities, mountains, ecosystems, oceans.

Traveling to, experiencing, and learning about places fascinates me.

I have been a geographer and explorer my entire life seeking to uncover the physical, social, and historical mysteries of how places form to better understand their present dynamics.

Realms of particular interest include demographics, poverty and urban decay, coastal and littoral processes, coral reefs, regional studies (Central America, Caribbean, Eurasia, South Pacific), deserts, habitat conservation, climate change, geopolitics, and more.

Community

In addition to my work and adventures, I enjoy supporting causes where I can volunteer and contribute to help people and places.

This includes environmental organizations, such as the Ocean Conservancy, and educational institutions including Edinburgh University (UK), University of Maryland, University of Denver, and the Valpo Surf Project.
